Culture Shock, in a Good Way: What Dubai Taught Me About Getting Things Done
My current project, building the brand and digital presence for a new AI trading bot, has been a real learning curve. But what's struck me most isn't just the tech, it's the sheer drive of the entrepreneurs I'm collaborating with in Dubai. Having worked with startups in Singapore and other markets, I expected a familiar pace. Dubai is… faster.
It’s a subtle difference at first, but it's palpable. There’s a real intensity and focus that defines every interaction here. Maybe it’s the city’s energy, maybe it’s a cultural thing. Whatever the reason, meetings here are remarkably efficient.
Think about our initial branding discussion for the AI bot. One hour. That’s all it took to go from product concept to a solid brand direction, target audience profile, key messages, and initial logo ideas. Agendas aren't just discussed; they're immediately translated into action.
Tasks aren't just delegated; they get moving fast. And here’s the kicker, in just five hours after that meeting wrapped up, we weren't reviewing logo drafts. We were looking at near-final versions.
Logo, practically finalized in an afternoon. Forget two weeks, forget one week, forget even days. The logo went from concept to finalise design in five hours.
The speed kept up. The next day, we were already diving into website and product platform design. We discussed requirements and immediately kicked off tasks for redesigning the platform, a platform that was being built simultaneously.
The aim? Accelerate the MVP. Keep the momentum. No delays. The rhythm is intense, yes, but incredibly productive. It’s about rapid progress and clear outcomes. Less talk, more action.
Working alongside successful entrepreneurs like Ali Haseeb and Jonathan Low has been genuinely insightful. It's like a firsthand lesson in decisive leadership and efficient execution. Singapore’s entrepreneurial scene is dynamic, no doubt. But Dubai feels… amplified.
This project is proving to be more than just a design task. It's highlighting the power of clarity, speed, and focus in bringing new ideas to life. And it's a mindset I’m already finding myself adopting, wherever future projects take me.
